Their story

YLA was established in Jakarta on January 22, 2013, by Lisda Sundari, a child protection activist who previously worked for eight years at the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA). The establishment of YLA was motivated by Lisda Sundari’s concern over the proliferation of child rights violations reported by the media, which were not leading to changes in conditions or policies to protect children. This situation led to the realization that critical intervention approaches alone were insufficient to reduce the frequency and severity of child rights violations. Therefore, there was a need to expand intervention efforts to include earlier preventive measures involving the government, community, and families. Preventive efforts are believed to be more effective in reducing cases of child rights violations and victimization.
