Mission and objectives
The mission is to empower people to do what is right through education, campaigns, and political meetings. Start making that difference by eliminating one plastic bag at a time.
Main activities with youth
The Mountain Mamas project was initiated by Bye Bye Plastic Bags and has ever since been empowering local women in Bali. One Island, One Voice is their Bali-based campaign, where many people, organisations, and businesses are involved in waste cleanups in their own areas. They also share educational booklets to actively get young students involved and learn about the waste problem so they can be a part of the solution.
Their story
Melati and Isabel Wijsen were just 12 and 10 years old when they asked themselves what young people could do to protect the planet. With no proper waste management system in Bali, they realised that huge amounts of plastic ended up in natural ecosystems, including oceans, beaches, and rivers. In 2013, they founded Bye Bye Plastic Bags (BBPB), which has become one of the biggest youth movements fighting plastic waste.
