Kesatuan Mahasiswa Hindu Dharma Indonesia (KMHDI) Denpasar

Mission and objectives

KMHDI’s vision is to be a unifying vessel and cadre trainer of Indonesian Hindu students. They aim to increase the number of qualified student cadres.

Main activities with youth

KMDHI provides spaces for young people to voice aspirations. Activities vary depending on the most current urban issues. In 2024, they focused on the environment. They created a green bazaar (reducing plastic use in their event), educated people on how to make bio pores and published magazines.

Their story

The organisation was established to organise and accommodate Hindus at the national level. Hindu student organisations in Bali agreed to form KMHDI. There was a debate about whether KMHDI should be under the government’s auspices or independent. Finally, the government agreed on an independent organisation. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights approved its legality under the Letter of the Ministry of Religion. Currently, KMDHI exists in 26 out of 34 provinces. The oldest branch is KMDHI Denpasar.

Constituency

Target groups are not limited to young people.

Current management

Dewa Permana is the leader of the 2023-2025 administrator. The organisational structure includes a secretary, a treasurer, and five divisions. There are hundreds of registered members. However, only 50 people are still active, and even fewer than those who participate. All of them are university students, Hindu, a maximum of 30 years old, or unmarried.
