Mission and objectives
KOHATI is a semi-autonomous organisation that is affiliated with the Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI) / Islamic Students’ Association. KOHATI focus on gender issues, women’s empowerment, and women’s and children’s welfare. KOHATI women’s movement is based on Islam.
Main activities with youth
KOHATI has activities such as internal training for cadres, seminars, youth movements about (gender issues, empowerment of women and children, education and social), mobilising masses, discussions, and hearings with local governments. The purpose of training is to improve skills or capacity building. Sometimes, KOHATI mobilises the masses regarding political issues related to gender.
Their story
KOHATI was established nationally in Solo in 1968 to provide a special place for HMI-Wati to build their organisational and managerial skillsets. It is a massive and critical women’s movement activist organisation related to gender issues. KOHATI is an Islamic-based women’s organisation that continually strives to actualise its movement.
Constituency
Members are students or young people. KOHATI has a cadre or training level, and members must follow LK 1 (Latihan Kader 1) and KOHATI special training or Latihan Khusus Kohati (LKK).
Current management
Decision-making is through deliberation but refers to the HMI bylaws and KOHATI Basic Guidelines or Pedoman Dasar Kohati (PDK). The leader has the authority to regulate, manage, and decide matters related to the management, members, and program execution.
