Learning across contexts through co-production: Youth journeys in digital urban governance

This document presented YUP citizen scientists’ journeys through Global Youth Exchange (GYE), a five-day international workshop held in Kuala Lumpur as part of the YUP Project. Bringing together sixteen young citizen scientists from Solo and Denpasar (Indonesia) and Bar Elias and El Mina (Lebanon), this exchange strengthened the citizen scientists’ capacities as co-researchers and co-producers through comparative analysis, power mapping, and collaborative design sessions. The GYE also directly informs the ongoing co-production of digital platforms, ensuring the citizen scientists are rooted in shared ownership, real needs, and sustainable youth participation. By the end of the workshop, citizen scientists described a shift from seeing themselves as research beneficiaries to recognizing their agency in shaping governance tools and influencing urban decision-making.
