Mission and objectives

Malu Dong is an environmental organisation based in Bali, Indonesia. It focuses on protecting and restoring Bali’s environment by advocating and promoting issues to stop plastic pollution from entering the ocean.

Main activities with youth

Beach clean up, marathon clean up. They are involved in public demonstrations and events to manage waste.

Their story

The organisation, registered as Yayasan Malu Dong Buang Sampah Sembarangan, has organised community clean-ups, installed trash barriers, and conducted emergency clean-ups at illegal dumpsites and along riverbanks to prevent plastic from entering the river. The organisation also works to enforce proper waste management at the local level.

Constituency

Working on social events (such as beach clean-ups and marathon races), their network varies from youth to adults.

Current management

It is led by a man who has a background in hotel management and is concerned about waste management in Bali. Initially, it only consisted of several people, but the initiative grew, and currently, they have 10,000-20.000 volunteers.
