Mission and objectives

Merah Putih Hijau (MPH) is a source-based material management assistance program. Together with the villagers, it builds, manages, and develops organic and inorganic material management infrastructure in its neighbourhood. It collaborates with villages and communities of Gianyar Regency to manage waste and materials independently, reducing the amount of waste going to landfills by 90%.

Main activities with youth

Public education regarding waste separation at home, working with young volunteers to manage waste, educating tenants/people at Pesta Kesenian Bali 2024, and other public events.

Their story

This programme is under the Bumi Sasmaya Foundation (YBS), a non-profit organization in the environmental and social fields. It was created in 2017 with a Deed of Establishment No. 05 dated 23 October 2017. Sean Nino initiated the establishment of the Bumi Sasmaya Foundation together with the Merah Putih Hijau (MPH) team as a forum to facilitate legal-formal management in running the MPH program.

Constituency

All ages because their approach is quite holistic (from the banjar unit, subak, village and customary village, regency, and even provincial). Their programs usually engage with the youth community (sekaa truna truni) in each of their assisted villages and open opportunities for youth to volunteer in their events (e.g. Pesta Kesenian Bali, Bali annual art festival). The youth engaged are in their 20s.

Current management

The team consists of 9 members.
