Their story
Founded in 1943 by sixteen young Lebanese students, the Orthodox Youth Movement began as a response to diminishing faith practices within the Antiochian Orthodox Church. By establishing the initiative in El Mina and Tripoli, the founders sought to deepen spiritual engagement and emphasize the importance of communal service. Today, it serves as a cornerstone for youth and community development.
Constituency
The focus is on youth (18-30 years old), primarily Lebanese Orthodox and Catholic, with participation from Maronite and Muslim communities.
Scout activities also target children (4-17 years old).
Families and individuals of all ages can participate as well.
They work with young people at their center, public venues like parks and streets, or rented spaces such as hotels and cultural centers.
Current management
Led by the El Mina Branch Council, a group of individuals aged 20 to 60 appointed by the branch president. Each member is responsible for specific roles, such as university student engagement or social service oversight.
